ESRI Adds Sketchfab Integration

Back to overview

We are pleased to announce that ESRI, maker of ArcGIS, now supports direct import of Sketchfab models into its Participatory Planning app.

Participatory Planning is a web app that allows citizens to engage in urban planning proposals by drawing plausible buildings and surroundings for new development areas. Users can import Sketchfab models and place them in the 3D plan, allowing them to create more meaningful and realistic plans.

Currently, the app allows users to import free, Creative Commons-licensed models into their scenes. In the future, purchased Sketchfab Store assets may also be available for import.

How to import a model into Participatory Planning

  1. Once you have selected the planning area and are ready to add one or more assets from Sketchfab, click the glTF button in the planning bar at the bottom of the screen.
  2. In the pop-up that appears, log in to your Sketchfab account if you have not already done so.
  3. In the pop-up’s search bar, type what you would like to search for.
  4. Select the model that you would like to import.
  5. Click the Import button and use your mouse to place the model in the desired location.
